Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This illustrated activity book, a collection of worksheets for newly-literate adult readers, is a companion to Stay Healthy. It is written in accessible language and is available in English and in Zulu. It is aimed at adults who take care of young children, particularly in rural settings. The worksheets help test knowledge, gain more skills and encourage people to think about their attitudes towards people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The booklet was developed by the Family Literacy Project, in KwaZulu/Natal, South Africa, with the help of Operation Upgrade.

The 20 worksheets cover a range of issues, including:
  • Talking about our [HIV] status;
  • Family and community response to disclosure;
  • Children with parents who are HIV-positive;
  • Talking to children about sex;
  • Helping children faced with serious illness and death; and
  • How to live as healthy a life as possible.
The activities are presented sensitively and encourage discussion as worksheets are completed. The booklet was tested by Family Literacy Project facilitators and group members and has been used by many other literacy and development groups.
