Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
Published by the Health Communication Partnership (HCP), this publication is written as a guide for implementing reproductive health programmes that involve men to help promote gender equity and improve sexual health for both men and women.

"Reaching Men to Improve Reproductive and Sexual Health for All" is the result of an international conference held in Dulles, Virginia, in September 2003, where more than 300 participants from 45 countries discussed interventions that involved men. The conference was sponsored by the Men and Reproductive Health Task Force of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Interagency Gender Working Group (IGWG).

The objective of this guide is to demonstrate how to develop, implement, and evaluate reproductive health programmes involving men and is aimed at reproductive health programme managers and technical staff of implementing agencies, government, and non-governmental organisations. Issues addressed include:
  • Male Identity in Adolescent Men
  • Policy Initiatives and Strategies for Advocating Male Involvement
  • Involving Men Through Maternal & Child Health
  • Men's Right and Empowerment in Improving Women's Reproductive Health
  • Successful Strategies in Reaching Men
  • Tools and Programs for Monitoring and Evaluation
HCP is a global communication initiative based at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Communication Programs in partnership with the Academy for Educational Development, Save the Children, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, and Tulane University 's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
