Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

2007 International Alternative Channel Citizen Journalist Contest, The

The 2007 Alternative Channel Citizen Journalist Contest is sponsored by www.alternativechannel.tv - an independent television-over-internet news channel. The contest is open to "every citizen of
the world who feels they have something worth saying using video."



Videos will be judged on persuasion, values, message, relevance, and novelty. The length is a 1.5 to 6-minute-long report or testimonial video.



The Alternative ChannelTV audience will nominate their top 8 favourites in each category. The final judging will be by a jury of professional journalists.



Prizes will be awarded in February 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland,
during the first International Citizen Journalism Summit.

The categories and prizes in Canadian dollars are the following:

  1. Best English Language subject:

    - The Alternative Channel best subject award (three prizes).

    - The Audience’s Choice award (three prizes).
  2. Best French Language subject:

    - The Alternative Channel best subject award (three prizes).

    - The Audience’s Choice award (three prizes).
  3. Best Spanish Language subject:

    - The Alternative Channel best subject award (three prizes).

    - The Audience’s Choice award (three prizes).
  • 1st Prize of each category: CAD$10,000.
  • 2nd Prize of each category: CAD$3,000.
  • 3rd Prize of each category: CAD$2,000.

Entry process: Upload and submit videos to the AlternativeChannel.TV website starting
May 1 2007.


The deadline for application is January 25 2008.
