Sangor

Search for Common Ground published this novel based upon its radio drama, also called "Sangor," which airs in the Maithili language on 20 FM stations in the eastern part of Nepal.  The idea of the pair of media presentations is to inspire young people to take leadership in supporting the country's peace process and transition to democracy. 
 
The novel tells the story of Amit, a former armed fighter, who renounces violence and works to overcome ethnic, caste, political, and economic differences. The novel centres on the issues and situations of contemporary Nepal and the Eastern Terai (Mithila-Madhesh) and focuses on how youth become attracted to weapons and violence. Research was conducted, and results were analysed and presented in the radio drama. This research informed the writing of the novel.
