Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText

The United Against Malaria (UAM) campaign materials are a set of banners/signs, campaign materials, magazines, posters, promotional videos, and reports, which were produced for the UAM campaign, a public-private partnership comprised of football stars, non-governmental organisations, foundations, governments, corporations, and individuals. UAM mobilised partners ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa to raise global awareness and renew commitment to ending malaria, as well as increase the use of prevention tools and malaria treatment in Africa. The materials were produced by UAM partners Voices for a Malaria-Free Future, in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health/Center for Communication Programs (CCP).
The resources include:

  • The Malaria Safe Playbook which offers a collection of resources and best practices from key players in the field to encourage even more organisations to tackle malaria as a critical development issue. This guide offers informational guides, communication tools, and contacts for decision-makers in the public and private sector. Click here to download this book.
  • The Four Pillars of the UAM Campaign booklet describes education, protection, visibility, and advocacy as the four key components of a successful malaria campaign.  Billboards, posters, and pamphlets with a soccer theme encourage people to "use your power to kick out malaria" and "Score a Goal" against malaria.  Click here to download the Four Pillars Campaign booklet, a magazine, the billboard graphics, posters, and pamphlets from the President's Malaria Initiative Special Collection on the C-Hub website.
