Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

SummaryText
This manual was designed for non-governmental organisations, (NGOs) to illustrate how work on HIV/AIDS, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and other public health issues can be integrated. The manual is meant to be a practical tool and reference book for NGOs, providing examples of common approaches and best practices, as well as information about resources, tools, websites, and other training manuals. The manual has an accompanying CD-ROM, which contains the manual in a PDF format and design files, which aim to enable any organisation to adapt and reprint the manual according to their needs. The CD-ROM also contains additional full-text resources for the main topics covered in the manual.

The manual is divided into five sections. The first introduces the manual and explains key terms and issues. The second section discusses arguments and rational behind integrating HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights, while the third covers the most important health system factors. The fouth section addresses steps for integration including participatory approaches, advocacy, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation. The fifth chapter is an overview of how materials were chosen for this manual.
