Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Striking WASH Communication

This initiative centres around an online platform (blog) featuring concrete cases on notable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) communication. Developed in advance of the Stockholm World Water Week, September 2010, this blog is meant to provide inspiration and exchange and to show what has already been done - what has worked and made an impact.
Communication Strategies

This blog is an interactive place where contributors and readers can share cases of communication for improving water, sanitation, and hygiene, that highlight both successes and failures. It is organised around the questions: Can communication and information sharing lead to improved water, sanitation, and hygiene? Where have media, marketing, public relations, and advocacy made the difference? The case studies contributed to the blog will be presented at the Stockholm World Water Week. [Editor's note: As part of this process, organisers extended a call for case studies (with a new deadline of July 16 2010). The instructions indicate that: "The outline / ppt should...focus on just how communication has impacted WASH service, behavior change, consumption or knowledge sharing on WASH issues and the potential for the lessons learned for others in the sector."
