Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Stop TB Partnership's Challenge Facility for Civil Society

The Stop TB Partnership's Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) invites applications from grass-roots civil society organisations (CSOs) engaged in advocacy and social mobilisation activities seeking to raise awareness and empower communities to become part of the solution in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). These grants seek to assist community-based CSOs by supporting them to, among other things:

  • Increase awareness and active participation of local communities in the fight against TB
  • Build capabilities of members of local communities, empowering individuals to express their rights and assume their responsibilities
  • Address challenges in project implementation
  • Strengthen links between grant recipients and local authorities (e.g., health services), to ensure ongoing governmental support of civil society contributions to the fight against TB
  • Bring together different organisations and grant holders to exchange best practices in mobilising communities and managing projects

Applications are currently being accepted for the fourth round of the Stop TB Challenge Facility for Civil Society. To date, the Challenge Facility has awarded nearly US$1,210,000. Individual grants range from US$5,000 to US$20,000.
