Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.

Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.

We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

Stats: Age Demographics Make a Difference in Blogging

Summary

This one-page document shares - in narrative and graphic format - findings that link age demographics with web board and blog usage. It features data drawn from inSitesEngine, the technology company Rareplay's proprietary platform for extracting web intelligence. Based on a review of approximately 1.2 million blogs and 2.5 million web boards, inSitesEngine found that:

  • Roughly 73% of bloggers are under the age of 30 years.
  • Roughly 24% of bloggers are between 30 and 50 years of age.
  • Roughly 3% of bloggers are above the age of 50 years.

One RarePlay official commented that these data may highlight "a great opportunity to reach and communicate with such a desirable and influential demographic" - those under the age of 30.

In addition, a distinct age disparity between bloggers and web board users was identified, with the median age for bloggers at approximately 25.2 years in contrast to the median age for web board users - 5 years older at 30.2 years.
