Development action with informed and engaged societies
After nearly 28 years, The Communication Initiative (The CI) Global is entering a new chapter. Following a period of transition, the global website has been transferred to the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in South Africa, where it will be administered by the Social and Behaviour Change Communication Division. Wits' commitment to social change and justice makes it a trusted steward for The CI's legacy and future.
 
Co-founder Victoria Martin is pleased to see this work continue under Wits' leadership. Victoria knows that co-founder Warren Feek (1953–2024) would have felt deep pride in The CI Global's Africa-led direction.
 
We honour the team and partners who sustained The CI for decades. Meanwhile, La Iniciativa de Comunicación (CILA) continues independently at cila.comminitcila.com and is linked with The CI Global site.

IAWRT International Awards for Excellence

The International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) invites women radio and TV/film documentarists to enter their documentary in the IAWRT Awards for Excellence 2009.

The IAWRT Awards celebrate outstanding documentaries made by women and are open to all female producers, directors, and journalists working with radio, television, and film documentaries anywhere in the world.

Documentaries must be about women who are making a difference, on their own lives or on the lives of other women. Entries must be between 20 and 90 minutes long (film submissions) and 15 - 60 minutes (radio submission) and have been aired or shown at a competitive festival between November 2007 and October 2009.

Award Categories are:
• Radio - 15 - 60 min. in length
• Television - 20 - 90 min. in length

Guidelines include the following:

  • The director must be a woman.
  •  The programme must be about women/a woman.
  • Candidates are limited to entering one programme.
  • Entries must be in English or subtitled
    in English (TV/film) or accompanied by a full English manuscript
    (radio).
  • Programmes must have been broadcast/aired or screened/listened to on a competitive festival between November 2007 and October 1 2009.
  • Each entry must include a complete entry form with the radio/TV programme on CD/DVD.
