3. "Unfulfilled Promises: Women's Rights in Egypt - Population Council - explores the recent history of Egyptian women's efforts to win full participation in society. Suggests that women's progress has been impeded by larger political conflicts, and that women often find themselves caught between the state and religious conservatism. "Recent public discourse on women in Egypt, which is dominated by the conservative polemics of Islamists, has subordinated women's issues to concerns for security and legitimacy."
